What Should I Do Before I Decide To Audition?

STEP 1 - Check The Time Commitment

Are you capable of fully participating?  Check the Time Commitment.  Bring up any concerns or conflicts with Mr. Von Glahn before you put the time in.  A Google calendar will be posted (like the one below) with our most updated schedule.  Virtual rehearsals will be made by appointment and will be announced on the Sunday of each week of rehearsal.

STEP 2 - Research The Show

Get familiar with The Music Man.  Read the Show Synopsis to understand the story of The Music Man.   Read the Role Descriptions to understand the characters, their voice ranges, and what playing those roles will require of you.  See what songs each character sings, in full or in part, on the Songs Sung by Character Page .  Listen to the Reference Recordings to get familiar with the songs of The Music Man (see your Google Classroom for the password).  Watch video from other performances of The Music Man on YouTube or other platforms.  NOTE:  The Reference Recordings are password protected.  Check our Google Classroom for the password of email Mr. Von Glahn.

STEP 3 - Choose A Role

Once you know the time commitment, have researched the show, and have decided that you would like to audition - choose a role that meets your availability, your acting ability, your vocal ability, and your dancing ability.  For some roles, you'll need to act out part of the script in character in your audition.  For every role, you will need to perform a song from a Broadway Musical, past or present.

All the details regarding what you need to prepare for your audition voice range check, audition monologue, audition song, and audition interview!

AUDITION READING

Check the audition monologue/sides sheet in Google Classroom for your specific reading assigned.  Every person auditioning must audition in person with their audition monologue(s).

AUDITION SONG

Every person auditioning must audition their audition song in person.  That song must be a song from a Traditional Broadway musical.  Please do not use a song from the Music Man for your audition.  Students must audition with a performance or karaoke track of that song, however, the performance track may NOT have any singing recorded on it.  (If you are not sure if your song is from a Traditional Broadway musical, or if you are concerned with your performance/karaoke track, see Mr. Von Glahn as soon as possible.)

VOICE RANGE CHECK

Every person auditioning must audition their voice range check in person  Their voice range check will be done in two parts (one for the upper voice; one for the lower voice) - it will be a short pattern changing keys chromatically going up and down.  Practice singing the exercises on "AH" with the tracks provided.
