Contemporary A Cappella Group(s) Auditions 2024-2025
FOR VOCALISTS AND VOCAL PERCUSSIONISTS/BEATBOXERS
Auditions for the 2024-2025 school year, elements of the audition will be done live while other elements will be conducted by video submission .
Group(s) will consist of no more than 18 members per group for the 2024-2025 school year.
Voice placement and scale audition elements must be completed before Monday, 5/3/24 at 6:00p.m. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Please schedule a date and time with Mr. Von Glahn as soon as possible.
All live audition elements must be completed in full by Tuesday, 5/4/24 at 9:09p.m.

What Should I Do Before I Decide To Audition?
STEP 1 - Check The Time Commitment
Are you capable of fully participating? Check the Time Commitment by clicking HERE. Check the Rehearsal Calendar posted below. Bring up any concerns or conflicts with Mr. Von Glahn before you put the time in.
NOTE: The schedule listed is subject to change, and should be treated as a tentative schedule. Changes to the schedule will be applied when known. The schedule is designed as an "in-person" schedule.
REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE CALENDAR
Step 2 - Attend our clinic/information meeting
We will be going over, in detail, the audition process for the 2024-2025 season. This is a great opportunity to ask the questions that you need answered. If you are new, this it the time that you get a chance to talk with the directors and previous years' members regarding the time commitment, the preparation, the work and their feelings, both positive and negative, on their past experiences with the groups. Our clinic/information meeting will be held on Tuesday, 5/7/24 @ 7:30pm. Our clinic/interest meeting/open house will be held on Monday 5/13/24 @ 7:00pm in room A4. How do I audition?
STEP 1
Sign up for our Google Classroom. Get infomation updates on the audition process!
Step 2
Fill out the 2023-2024 Contemporary A Cappella Audition Application Form
STEP 3
Practice and prepare the voice placement, scales, solo and group song you need for the audition!
STEP 4
Schedule your appointment for your voice placement, scales and interview!!
STEP 5
Send your accompaniment sound file to Mr. VG!
STEP 6
Attend the live auditions on Monday, 5/4/24 at 6:00pm in A4!
Vocalist Auditions
Vocalist Auditions will be completed in two in person parts - one by appointment and one group session.
Part 1 - IN PERSON - Voice Placement Scales, Solo, Group s and Interview - Students will schedule an appointment time to meet with the director. BE SURE TO READ THE CRITERIA FOR EACH ITEM FOUND ON OUR AUDITION INFORMATION PAGE FOUND HERE!
Each person auditioning will:
- Sing through a voice placement exercise.
- Sing THREE SCALES - Low Diatonic, High Diatonic and Chromatic Scales for their individual voice part. Students may use the pre-prepared starting pitch recording provided ONLY.
- Interview with Mr. Von Glahn, having a discussion on a variety of a cappella related topics.
Part 2 - GROUP AUDITION SESSION
- PERFORM a contemporary solo LIVE AT AUDITIONS - this song must be sung to a karaoke/instrumental backing track. Memorization of your solo is not mandatory, but highly recommended.
- PERFORM your voice part on the group audition piece LIVE AT AUDITIONS with other people auditioning (given at least two weeks prior to audition deadline). Memorization of your group audition piece is not mandatory, but highly recommended.
- PERFORM a demonstration of your vocal percussion skill LIVE AT AUDITIONS.
A coaching session is set to meet on Tuesday 5/7/24 at 7:30pm in room A4. There will be an open house on Monday 5/13/24 at 7:00pm. Students at the open house will be able to answer questions, observe and join in working with the 2023-2024 SoundXplosion group as well. These two events are the only times that students will be able to seek assistance on any audition material. The audition material to be done by appointment only (part 1) is due on by Monday 6/3/24 @ 6:00pm. The group audition will be held on Tuesday, 6/4/24 @ 6:00pm. Learning tracks have been provided below for students to practice and use during the audition process.
Vocal Percussion/Beatboxing Auditions
Part 1 - Basics and Freestyle Audition - SINGERS AND VOCAL PERCUSSIONISTS
Singers AND Vocal Percussionists will demonstrate any sound or combination of sounds they are capable of performing. Students will be asked to present their best demonstration of their vocal percussion skills.
Part 2 - Group Auditions
Vocal Percussionists will create a vocal percussion part to the group audition piece provided above and perform that part with either the rehearsal track or a group of students, at the judges discretion.

Group Song
The song is My Radioactive songs know by Fall Out Boy and Imagine Dragons. You will be auditioning on material on your voice part only, with other auditionees live. Please prepare the ENTIRE SONG. Please be sure to follow the guidelines as stated in the Audition Information posted HERE.
